The Ministry of Jal Shakti on Saturday announced that every household in the state of Arunachal Pradesh would get water tap connection by 2023. Under this mission, every house will be provided with a Functional Household Tap Connection(FHTC) ensuring adequate and potable water to them.
The Jal Jeevan Mission is an initiative by the Central Government under the Ministry of Jal Shakti which aims to provide piped water through individual households tap to every household in India by 2024. A fund of Rs. 3.5 trillion was formed Another major initiative is ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ which aims to provide tapped water to 18 lakh rural households.
The mission is being implemented by the Public Health Engineering Department(PHE) of the Arunachal Pradesh government. The mission has faced several difficulties.in implementation most notably a rough terrain, lack of transportation, and the effects of lockdown.
One example is of a village named Hiba in the Kurung Kurney valley. The village is accessible only through road which is an arduous journey of 355 km. Furthermore, the region receives rainfall for more than half of the year which makes it a greater challenge to travel, and transporting heave materials is even more difficult. The villages in the region have also put themselves under self-quarantine and are not allowing anybody from the outside to enter their village and thus officials have to rope in the help of Gram Panchayats and communities have not only been making progress in the task but are also engaging the local population as workers on the project and creating jobs in the local economy.
The Mission such efforts have been able to provide 51 households of Rello, Sara, and Hocho with water tap connections and they hope that they will be able to complete their mission on time.
