Governor of Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu stressed that Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) should hold farmer awareness programmes on Block level. This attempt has been made by the Governor to provide farm related facilities and awareness at the doorsteps of the farmers of the State.
Droupadi Murmu said, “Since farmers from remote areas of the State can’t come to BAU for learning the modern farm technologies, agrotech fairs should be organized at block levels for technical empowerment of the farmers.”
She addressed the valedictory session of the three-day Agrotech Fair at BAU and said farmers’ field is the right place for farm technologies perfected and recommended by research institutes and it should not be restricted to laboratories. Scientists and students of BAU should adopt one village each for its overall development in farm sector and should also spend 5-7 days every month to properly teach the farmers the techniques from land preparation and sowing to harvesting and marketing.
Governor further added, “Development of one village will have multiplier effect in adjoining villages. Farmers of Jharkhand are very intelligent and hard working. Complete package of practices need to be provided to them for achieving the target of doubling their income by 2022.”
She also felicitated 17 progressive farmers of the State for their innovative practices in agriculture and other related works.
BAU Vice Chancellor, Parvinder Kaushal spoke on the occasion and said, “Agrotech exhibition is one of the most effective ways of technology transfer to farmers.”
However, KK Sharma, Director Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Namkum said second green revolution will come from diversity-rich eastern India where much of the potentials in the farm sector remain untapped. Jharkhand will play important role in the revolution. All the Jharkhand-based ICAR institutes joined hands with BAU to showcase all the farm technologies, products, and services at one place for farmers.
Interestingly, a large number of people visited the venue to get information about the different modern farm technologies like farmers, school students, and others. A delegation of students of Army Public School (APS) also visited the venue.
Principal APS, Abhay Kumar Singh said that this is a good effort of the university. The school sent the students to learn modern techniques of farming.
