Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has concluded his visit to Brazil and is returning to India today, April 21, 2025. Chouhan led the Indian delegation at the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting held in Brasilia, where ministers and senior officials from BRICS nations and partner countries came together to discuss sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices. The theme of the meeting was “Promoting inclusive and sustainable agriculture through cooperation, innovation and equitable trade among BRICS countries.”

During the visit, Minister emphasized the need to boost soya production and exports in India. He underlined the importance of adopting advanced global technologies to empower Indian farmers and drive innovation in agriculture. To explore Brazil’s expertise, the Union Minister visited soyabean production plants, tomato farms, and other agri-tech institutions. He noted that India and Brazil are working on collaborations in soybean processing and technology transfer, which could help India reduce its import dependency and increase domestic production.

Agriculture Minister also held bilateral meetings with Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Henrique Baquetta Favero, and Minister of Agricultural Development and Family Agriculture, Luiz Paulo Teixeira. These discussions focused on deepening cooperation in agriculture, rural development, food security, and agri-tech innovation.

In Sao Paulo, Chouhan met with 27 members of Brazil’s agribusiness community, exploring opportunities for joint ventures in biofuels, food processing, supply chain integration, and sustainable agriculture. He expressed a strong interest in learning from Brazil’s successful agricultural practices and applying them in India for the benefit of farmers.

Reaffirming his commitment to environmental protection, Chouhan also participated in a tree plantation drive at the Indian Embassy in Brasilia under the initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.’ He interacted with the Indian diaspora in Brazil and praised their contributions to strengthening India-Brazil relations.

Reflecting on the visit, Chouhan said that the knowledge and experiences gained in Brazil will support India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047. He expressed confidence that this partnership will empower Indian farmers and contribute meaningfully to global food security.
