Aadhar card has become a mandatory document, without which you would be unable to perform any government or non-government activity. Now you can get all the information you need on your mobile phone itself. However, a sizable portion of the population in the country still does not have any access to the internet.

Keeping such people in mind, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a function that allows you to access a variety of services without using the internet.
UIDAI has launched a number of Aadhar related services that can be accessed by SMS. Now you do not need to use the Internet to access the UIDAI website, nor do you need to download Aadhar App. This does not necessarily need the use of Smartphones. These services are now available to anyone, even if they only have a basic feature mobile phone even without internet access.
Users can use this particular feature to access a variety of Aadhar related services, including development & retrieval of a Virtual ID (VID), locking & unlocking their Aadhar & biometric locking & unlocking. By sending an SMS from your registered mobile number to hotline number 1947, you can take the advantage of whichever feature or service that you choose.
How to Generate Virtual ID

To generate a Virtual ID, firstly, you have to go to your mobile’s message box.

Send GVID (SPACE) & the last 4 digits of your Aadhar Number to 1947.

To get your VID, type – RVID (SPACE).

You can get the OTP in two different ways. First through your Aadhar number & second through your VID.

For Aadhar to OTP type- GETOTP (SPACE) & enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhar.

For VID to OTP type- GETOTP (SPACE) & enter the last 6 digits of your official Virtual ID in SMS.
How to Lock & Unlock Aadhar

With only one SMS, you can now lock or unlock your Aadhar.

No one can use your Aadhar if you do this.

Anytime you can lock it when you are ready to utilize it.

You will need a VID to lock your Aadhar.
How to Lock Aadhar through SMS

Go to the text & type SMS and type “GETOTP” (SPACE) and your Aadhar number’s last 4 digits.

The second should send as soon as the OTP is received.

Enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhar (SPACE) 6 digit OTP in this LOCKUID (SPACE).
How to Un-Lock Aadhar through SMS

In the SMS box, type “GETOTP” (SPACE), then your VID’s last 6 digits.

Write UNLOCK (SPACE) & the last 6 digits of your VID (SPACE) 6 digit OTP in another SMS.
