On June 21, 2022, the main event of the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2022) demonstration will be held in Mysuru, Karnataka. Sarbanand Sonowal, Minister of Ayush, announced yesterday that Mysuru has been chosen as the venue for the 8th IDY's Mass Yoga Demonstration (Main Event).
Because this International Day of Yoga (IDY) falls during the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" year, the Ministry has also planned to observe IDY at 75 iconic locations throughout the country, with a focus on branding India on a global scale.
Speaking to the media, Sarbanand stated that, in addition to the main event in Mysuru, another attraction on June 21st this year will be the Guardian Ring, a relay Yoga streaming event that will capture and weave together digital feeds of IDY programmes organized by Indian Missions around the world. The streaming will begin at 6 a.m. local time from Japan, the land of the rising sun.
The Minister also stated that a number of events are planned in the run-up to IDY, including a 25-day countdown in Hyderabad on May 27, where approximately 10,000 yoga enthusiasts will participate in a yoga demonstration.
The Governor of Karnataka, Union Ministers, Film Stars, Sports Persons, Celebrities, revered Yoga Gurus, eminent dignitaries, experts in Yoga and allied science, local Yoga institutions, and Yoga enthusiasts will grace the occasion.
Shivdol (50th Day Countdown on May 2) and Red Fort hosted previous mega countdown events (75th Day Countdown on April 7).
Yoga is a priceless gift from India's ancient tradition. It represents mind-body unity, thought-action harmony, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise, but rather about discovering a sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and nature.
