Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently announced an 11 percent DA hike for state government employees, putting them at par with central government employees.

According to Chouhan, the MP state administration has decided to raise the dearness allowance (DA) for government employees to 31%, effective April 1. Previously, the DA for the MP state government stood at 20%.

Around seven lakh employees are expected to get the benefit of this DA hike.

Chouhan stated that the government was unable to raise the DA of state government employees due to the coronavirus. However, after the announcement, the money would be disbursed in April.

According to the chief minister, the government will grant an additional Rs 25,000 to girl students under the ‘Ladli Laxmi Plan’ for college entrance. Other schemes, he noted, will continue throughout the state.

In January, the Haryana state government stated that starting July 1, 2021, Haryana Government and family pensioners will receive a increase in Dearness Relief and Dearness Allowance to 31 percent.

"The Governor of Haryana is happy to increase the Dearness Allowance payable to Haryana Government employees who are paid under the 7th Pay Commission from the current rate of 28% to 31% of the base pay."

On the other hand, several media reports mention that the Modi government may also soon announce a DA hike to 34% of the basic salary for the central government employees and pensioners. If this happens, the salary of central government employees and pensioners will also be increased.

The central government employees have been demanding a hike in DA and fitment factor under the 7th pay commission. Currently, this DA is 31 percent. This decision of the Modi government will benefit more than 50 lakh government employees and more than 65 lakh pensioners.
