Independence Day is a proud day for all Indian citizens, which honours India's fight for independence. We honour those who bravely battled for our independence from the British Empire on this day.
On that day, the 1947 Independence Act was passed, giving the Indian Constituent Assembly legislative authority over India. India celebrates its 75th anniversary of independence on August 15th each year with pride and joy.
On this day, people celebrate by hoisting the Indian flag, with singing the national anthem. All Indian neighbourhoods, schools, and institutions participate in the flag-hoisting celebration. The day starts with the Prime Minister receiving a Guard of Honour from the armed forces and Delhi Police, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag, the national anthem being played, and a 21-gun salute. The Indian Air Force helicopters also drop flower petals over the event in a sprinkling. This is quickly followed by a speech by the Prime Minister and the release of tri-coloured balloons at the end. This is held every year at the Red Fort.
Celebrate Independence Day by sending the following wishes and messages to friends and families:
"Money cannot purchase freedom. We earned ours through years of struggle against the British Raj. Let's honour everyone who sacrificed for our country.
"A heartfelt thank you to all the soldiers who gave their lives in defence of our independence! I salute you.
"It is crucial that we remember our past. But we also need to think about how we want to influence the future. Let's do all in our power to protect and preserve our freedom. Happy Independence Day!'
"Let's keep alive the memories of all those who gave their lives in service to our nation. Happy Independence Day in 2022 to all of you!
"Today, we are grateful to those who helped us achieve our independence. Although freedom is elusive, we were fortunate to possess it. Let's be grateful for all that we have and honour the wonderful miracle of freedom. Happy Independence Day.'
