The CIA and Food Safety Department Team seized 300 kilograms of spurious ghee in Zirakpur, Punjab. The packings of ghee had fake holograms and Agmark certification. The food safety teams have once again fulfilled the commitment to provide healthy and safe foods to the people of Punjab.
The action was taken after a tip off by the Food Safety Department with the help of Crime Investigating Agency officials. Mr. KS Pannu, Commissioner Food Safety informed, “300 kg of spurious ghee with fake holograms and Agmark certification was seized in Mohali. A white Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number PB-03-Z-8575 was intercepted by CIA staff. It was carrying 25 boxes of apparently spurious Verka Desi Ghee amounting to about 300 kg.”
A team of Verka officials from Bathinda were called to examine the authenticity of the packings. The team observed the packings and revealed that the bore holograms, Agmark certification and other glaring things on the label were fake. Samples were taken and whole stock was seized by police at CIA Kharar.
Earlier in the day, another team seized Devki Nandan Desi Ghee from railway road Khanna.
KS Pannu added, “Cost price of desi ghee was mentioned Rs.180 per kg whereas genuine desi ghee costs not less than Rs 350 per kg. It was apparent that it was adulterated with vegetable oils like Palm oil of Rs 50 per kg etc. In total the teams have confiscated 72 half kg packs, 14 one kg packs, 75 packs of 200 gms each and 161 plastic containers.
In this regard, FIR has been registered at Zirakpur police station against Ashok Kumar, the owner of the car, under section 420 (fraud), 272 adulteration of food or drink intended for sale) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code(IPC).
