The government has announced a significant initiative to modernize various cooperative institutions in India.

With a budget of Rs 225.09 crore, this initiative will computerize state cooperative registrars and 1,851 offices of Agriculture and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs).

Additionally, it is part of a larger effort to computerize all Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) nationwide.

Under this centrally sponsored scheme, a national unified software will be employed to computerize the ARDBs in 13 states.

Moreover, the government plans to computerize the offices of the Registrar of Cooperatives across all states and Union Territories.

To oversee the successful execution of this project, a Central Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) will be established. The primary goal of this initiative is to improve accessibility to services offered by cooperative departments and ARDB offices, promoting transparency and consistency in their operations. This, in turn, will enhance efficiency and save time.

The central government has been taking proactive measures to strengthen cooperative societies nationwide. This new initiative represents a substantial step toward modernization and streamlining of cooperative institutions, making them more efficient and accessible to the public.
