About Indian Army HQ Southern Command
The Southern Command was established on April 1, 1895. The saga, however, began on December 31, 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter to "The Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies." In 1613, they obtained a "farman" from Emperor Jahangir to establish a factory in Surat. The East India Company was named after this company. The Company's fortunes and ambitions grew as a result of trade.
