World Food Safety Day serves as a reminder of the critical importance of collective efforts in reducing food loss and conserving precious water resources. Arya.ag, India's only profitable integrated agri-tech firm, recognizes its responsibility in addressing these challenges faced by the agricultural sector in India. Food safety and security are fundamental rights that every individual deserves. However, post-harvest losses and inefficient storage practices continue to pose significant threats to these rights.
Arya.ag has been working to develop and implement innovative storage solutions across its network of 11,300 warehouses in 425 districts spanning 21 states. By facilitating the storage of 7 million metric tons of agricultural produce near farm gates, the company has contributed to reducing food loss by 7%, ultimately saving approximately 1 trillion litres of water and 40,000 metric tons of fertiliser.
These numbers represent a step towards the greater goal of ensuring food safety and security for all. Arya.ag acknowledges that there is still much work to be done, and it is through the concerted efforts of farmers, agri-tech companies, policymakers, and consumers that a lasting impact can be made.
Arya.ag has focused on the adoption of hermetic storage technology, which eliminates the need for chemical use and slows down fungus growth. This innovative solution helps combat aflatoxin contamination in maize, a serious health hazard that can enter the food chain through poultry feed. The company has stored 20,000 metric tons of produce in hermetic storage structures across primary production centres nationwide, marking the beginning of a journey towards safer food for all.
"On World Food Safety Day, Arya.ag reaffirms its commitment to working alongside farmers, industry partners, and all stakeholders to promote food safety and reduce food loss," said Chattanathan D, Cofounder at Arya.ag. "By empowering farmers with the right tools and knowledge, and fostering collaboration across the agricultural value chain, we can together build a more sustainable and food-secure future."
This day serves as an opportunity for all to reflect on the importance of food safety and the role that each individual can play in reducing food loss and conserving water resources. Together, a difference can be made.
