UPL Ltd. has inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Jhagadia, Gujarat. The new facility would support production of clethodim, one of the largest selective post-emergence herbicides across the world used to prevent annual & perennial grasses in many crops.
It must be noted that Clethodim was brought into company’s product portfolio through the purchase of Arysta LifeScience; after just 20 months post-integration, UPL’s vision of expanding its in-house production capabilities has become a reality.
Diego Lopez Casanello, Global Chief Operating Officer of UPL said, “The addition of the Jhagadia facility to our global manufacturing site network determines UPL’s ability to act quickly & with agility in order to offer agriculture solutions that address farmer pain points”.
The development of clethodim was driven with the aim to safely provide global solutions that reinforce farmer resiliency & meet increased demand requirements mainly due to weed resistance against glyphosate. This investment significantly improves company’s competitive position & strengthens its market leadership in this key molecule.
Raj Tiwari, Global Head of Supply Chain & Manufacturing at UPL said, “As farmers around the globe continue to depend on UPL for consistent & reliable supply of high-quality crop protection solutions, UPL is excited to boost production of Clethodim to support the growing demand”. He said, “Along with our in-house manufacturing production, we would continue to control our strategic external manufacturing partnerships already in place as a key part of our strategy to meet the needs of farmers globally.”
The new facility is fully automated as well as DCS controlled with latest process technologies in the chemical industry. Through in-house production, the company will leverage its manufacturing capabilities & cost leadership, making Clethodim more widely available to farmers across several geographies and crops.
