In the middle of the mass destruction of human lives and economic breakdown caused by Coronavirus, several industry players are trying to give a helping hand so that the world can fight together against all the odds. The Chairman of one of the biggest multinational conglomerates Mahindra Group has extended his resources to combat the crisis.
Anand Mahindra has decided to offer 100% of his salary to deal with the alarming situation of Coronavirus. As per his direction, the group will immediately start working on manufacturing ventilators at its factories as the pandemic is approaching towards stage 3 of its transmission.
In a tweet on Sunday, Mahindra shows his concerns towards the menace and mentions, “Going by various reports from epidemiologists, it is highly likely that India is already in stage 3 of transmission. These cases could rise exponentially with millions of casualties, putting a huge strain on medical infrastructure.”
"A lock-down over the next few weeks will help flatten the curve and moderate the peak pressure on medical care. However, we need to create scores of temporary hospitals and we have a scarcity of ventilators. To help in the response to this unprecedented threat, we at Mahindra Group will immediately begin work on our manufacturing facilities can make ventilators," he further added.
Mahindra further added that its own travel company, Mahindra Holidays & Resorts, will offer its resorts to provide temporary healthcare facilities. He also shares that the group's project team is all set to aid the government and army officials in establish temporary care facilities.
Moreover, the corporate social responsibility arm of the group, Mahindra Foundation, will be creating a special fund to aid the pandemic-hit people in their value chain (small businesses and the self-employed).
Assuring the people, Mahindra says, "We will encourage associates to voluntarily contribute this fund. I will contribute 100% of my salary to it and will add more over the next few months. I will urge all our various businesses to also set aside contributions for those who are the hardest hit in their ecosystem."
Mahindra has been quite active on twitter since the pandemic has hit the nation and has been sharing his concerns about the worsening condition. "The virus will eventually be conquered, but it will have left behind a global recession. The costs of that are incalculably high at this time. The most fearsome toll will be on small businesses, the self-employed & those whose lives depend on meager daily wages," read one of his initial tweets about the Covid-19 crisis.
