The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) and the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on academic and research projects.
In the presence of Vice-Chancellor K.Riji John, the MoU was signed and exchanged between KUFOS Registrar B.Manoj Kumar and CWRDM Executive Director Manoj P. Samuel.
CWRDM is a research organisation based in Kozhikode and funded by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. Its aim is to improve people's quality of life by providing water security for everyone. It is also responsible for studies on water resources management in Kerala.
According to the agreement, KUFOS and CWRDM will work collaboratively on studies in numerous disciplines of aquatic ecosystem management (including aquatic pollution monitoring and abatement, water quality management, climate change studies, wetland management, wastewater management, coastal processes and coastal zone management, restoration of degraded ecosystems), water-energy-GHG-Food nexus/systems, water distribution, allocation, and economics, and so on.
Students from KUFOS can use CRWDM's research facilities, and all research scholars accepted to CWRDM are entitled to enrol for Ph.D. programmes at KUFOS' various faculties. Scientists at CWRDS will be given the designation of KUFOS certified research guides and will be visiting KUFOS faculties / professors in their fields of expertise.

The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) is a university dedicated to fisheries and ocean sciences that was founded by the Kerala government. On December 30, 2010, the Kerala Legislative Assembly passed a bill to create the university. KUFOS is based on the Panangad campus of the College of Fisheries, near Madavana junction on the Kochi Bypass. The Kerala Agricultural University's College of Fisheries was founded in 1979 as a constituent college. KUFOS is India's first university dedicated only to studies in fisheries and related fields.
