Corteva Agriscience has launched a new mobile app, FarmFundi that provides a digital pest and disease identification guide for farmers all over Africa and the Middle East (AME). Farmers can also consult with Corteva’s expert crop scientists and local agronomists for treatment recommendations too.
Africa has tremendous crop losses inflicted by insects and other pests amounting to $21.5 billion so this app, FarmFundi comes at a time when with the use of a simple phone the farmers in Africa can manage the crop losses, without spending much money & find early signs of detecting diseases with the App. The farmers can use this as it’s a very easy and user-friendly platform and they can upload pictures along with a description of the symptoms. This will help the experts in identifying the problem and attending to the queries. All essential information is available offline also.
The Plantix is interesting software that is increasingly used as a digital pest and disease identification guide. Corteva is the first-to-market digital tool to the farmers in Africa and the Middle East.
Their collaboration with Plantix will help farmers to improve livelihoods and food security. They have made this guide with the help of technical teams at the farms & their expertise. Plantix specializes in crops like chilies, bananas, tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, millet, and peanuts—as well as commodity crops grown in regions of Africa and Asia.
Supporting farmers and contributing to food security had always been the primary effort of Corteva and with FarmFundi, they would be delighted to apply the deep learning techniques of AI (and gardeners) all over the planet to secure the crops. The FarmFundi App is available to download at no cost from Google and Android App stores in English, Swahili, Afrikaans, and French, and Arabic.
The Corteva™ FarmFundi app also delivers on Corteva’s sustainability commitments; ensuring progress for generations to come with the increasing demand for healthier, quality food, against the backdrop of COVID-19.
