As a part of a senior-level bureaucratic reshuffle on Friday by the Centre, senior bureaucrat Arun Singhal has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Food safety regulator FSSAI.
After the former chief Pawan Agarwal moved out of the role due to his appointment as special secretary logistics, the role was vacant and needed to be filled. However, after Aggarwal, GSG Ayyangar was given the responsibility till now. Arun Singhal will be taking over the responsibility from Ayyangar.
FSSAI comes under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, which is mainly held responsible for creating standards for the food industry and keep a check on the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale, and import of foods.
Till now, former IAS Arun Singhal is serving as a Special Secretary in the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Many other significant posts have also been shuffled by the center. S Gopalakrishnan has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) while Rajendra Kumar, will now be an Additional Secretary in the IT Ministry, replacing Mr. Gopalakrishnan.
Similarly, C Sridhar, who is the current Deputy Director in the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration has been appointed as Joint Secretary in the PMO.
The central government has also appointed 16 joint secretaries in its different departments in the reshuffle.
