Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) has imparted skill training to over 88,000 youth from rural and semi-urban areas across 10 States of India, with a placement rate of 76 percent, with the goal of assisting India's young generation in obtaining job-relevant skills and livelihoods (Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institutes).
SEDI is a one-of-a-kind skilling initiative that focuses on creating sustainable livelihoods for rural youth by preparing them for industry through hands-on vocational training.
The initiative also promotes entrepreneurship among its students and encourages them to start their own businesses in order to improve their financial situation.
Pearl Tiwari added on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, "Every year, 15 million youth enter the workforce, but industry studies show that more than 75 percent of them are not 'job-ready.' In this context, SEDI's achievement of providing vocational training to over 88,000 youth in order to make them employable is extremely satisfying. ACF is dedicated to improving the lives of people in rural areas by creating livelihoods - providing rural men and women with the skills they need to find work. We look forward to continuing our efforts to close India's skills gap and contributing to the government's Skill India Mission."
SEDI offers 43 certified courses in eight domains, including IT/ITES, electronics, health, construction, beauty and wellness, hospitality and tourism, automobile, capital goods, retail, and telecom.
The success of the skilling initiative has resulted in various corporates, government organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing support to expand SEDI's footprint in other locations, providing opportunities to more rural youth across India.
ACF also assists young people in earning money, establishing careers, and lifting their families out of poverty.
ACF has maintained a healthy 40:60 female-male ratio in each SEDI centre, despite gender diversity being one of its core values. ACF has also trained 3166 women in male-dominated technical fields such as welders, security guards, electricians, and technicians, and has placed 2153 women in various organisations.
