Aditya A. Shriram, Deputy Managing Director of DCM Shriram Ltd., has been elected as the new President of the Alkali Manufacturers Association of India (AMAI), the apex body representing the Rs 36,000 crore Alkali and Chloro-Vinyl industry in the country. Prashant J. Mahale, Senior Executive Vice President at Reliance Industries Ltd., has been appointed as the new Vice President. The announcements were made at the 48th Annual General Meeting of AMAI held in New Delhi.

An Industrial Engineer from Cornell University and an MBA graduate from the London Business School, Aditya has diverse experience across businesses and functions within the group. He is a strong advocate of safe and sustainable development, with a priority on ethical growth and adoption of the highest ESG standards in business.

Prashant Mahale brings over 35 years of leadership experience spanning Petroleum Downstream, Petrochemicals, Chlor-Alkali, Specialty/Bulk Chemicals, and Pulp & Paper industries. At Reliance, he has successfully led businesses with P&L responsibility, managed feedstock operations, and driven strategic procurement and commercial contracts. A Chemical Engineer by qualification, he has further sharpened his leadership skills through executive programs at ISB Hyderabad, Darden School of Business (University of Virginia), and XLRI Jamshedpur.

AMAI represents producers of caustic soda, chlorine, soda ash, PVC, CPVC, and other related products that form a vital segment of the chemical industry. These inputs are widely used in industries ranging from aluminium processing, textiles, soaps and detergents, pulp and paper, to glass and silicate production. Chlorine, in particular, is critical for producing PVC, CPW, chloromethanes, and for applications in water and effluent disinfection.

The association has long championed the spirit of Make in India, consistently meeting domestic demand despite challenges, including competition from low-cost imports.

AMAI also undertakes pioneering work in chemical safety training, especially on handling chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, and bleaching solutions/powders, which are widely used for disinfection but hazardous if mishandled.
