The ongoing situation of COVID-19 or Coronavirus can pose some challenges for the mothers to be. It is important to take extra precautions to avoid catching the infection. Although there is still much that doctors don't know about how pregnancy can be affected by the virus, pregnant women do not appear to become more unwell than other healthy adults who contract it. According to researchers, some viruses are more harmful for pregnant women but there is no evidence that the same is the case with Coronavirus. There are also worries about if a mother can transmit the infection to the baby in the womb but experts say that there is no need to panic as there are cases where a COVID-19 positive pregnant women delivering babies who have tested negative. 

Doctors and Researchers advice pregnant women to be extra careful as pregnancy itself is a vulnerable stage because it suppresses a person’s immune system. Pregnant women should avoid going out to avoid contracting the infection. If for some reason you have to venture out, use a mask that covers your face properly. Also, do not touch the mask other than the straps to wear it and remove it. Ensure you practice social distancing of at least 6 feet from any person. Washing your hands several times in a day with soap for minimum of 20 seconds is advised. An alcohol based sanitizer should be keep handy at all times. Apart from not going out and practicing social distancing, the other important thing women can do is online consulting with their doctors. But at the same time it is very important to inform your doctor immediately if any health problems arise. 

It is even more important for a pregnant women to not touch her mouth, eyes, nose, and ears repeatedly as it can be harmful for them and for their baby. To help and improve your immune system enough amount of sleep is really crucial. It helps to keep the mind and body energetic. It is proven that by getting enough sleep regularly our immunity increases and it helps in avoiding many infections and health problems. It is also important for baby’s growth. So make sure to get enough hours of sleep. 

A nutritious diet can go a long way in maintaining our immune system’s efficacy. So it is really important for expecting mothers to eat well balanced nutrition rich diet. You can ask your doctor for a diet chart that fits your condition. Furthermore, you can take doctor’s advice about some food items that will help you to increase your immunity.
