How to make sticky rice at home –

Rinse the rice in cold water using a fine mesh strainer, until the water runs clear. This helps to remove any dirt or impurities from the rice.

Place the rice in a large bowl and add enough water to cover the rice by about 1 inch. Let the rice soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to several hours. The longer the rice soaks, the softer and stickier it will become.

Drain the rice and transfer it to the bamboo steamer or regular steamer. If using a bamboo steamer, place the steamer over a wok or large pot filled with water, making sure that the water does not touch the bottom of the steamer. If using a regular steamer, place the steamer in a pot or large saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.

Bring the water to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Place the steamer with the rice on top of the pot or wok, making sure that the rice is not in direct contact with the water. Cover the steamer with the lid and steam the rice for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and sticky.

Once the rice is cooked, remove the steamer from the heat and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the steam to escape. Using a fork or spoon, fluff the rice and then transfer it to a serving bowl.
