Ground flaxseed is an important constituent in a weight loss diet. It provides fiber which helps one feel full and offers other weight loss benefits. Flaxseeds are also helpful in the removal of tumor growth as the lignans present in flaxseed not only provide an active form of phytoestrogens that can change estrogen metabolism.  

Quantity to be used 

Just 1 tablespoon of flaxseed (10 grams) per day is the recommended serving to be provided which can enhance overall health. 

How it helps in weight loss

Flaxseeds are a good source of fiber and thus make the stomach full in a very short time. They also contain nutrients as well as protein, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, omega 3, and lignin. It is also beneficial for the improvement of skin texture. 

How to consume flaxseeds 

Flaxseeds can be consumed whole or ground. Whole flaxseeds can be purchased from the market and can be roasted and grind. It can be sprinkled in food or consumed directly in order to get the benefit. One can store flaxseed in a cool, dark place for upto 4 months before consumption.  

 

Can it be consumed intact? 

Flaxseeds if consumed intact can pass through the intestine as a whole instead of providing nutrition. Rather it is better to grind it before consumption so that it opens the shells and provides the necessary components.

One tablespoon of flaxseed contains Calories, Protein, Carbs, Fiber, Total fat, Saturated fat, Monounsaturated fat, Polyunsaturated fats, vitamins B1, B6, Omega 3 Fatty acids, Folate, Calcium, and Iron along with Magnesium, Phosphorus, and Potassium. 

Role in Cholesterol improvement 

Cholesterol is the major problem that flaxseeds ingredients can solve as it contains fiber which binds with bile salts and is then excreted by the body. In a study conducted the consumption of flaxseeds (30 gm/day) for 3 months has lowered the total cholesterol by 17% and “bad” LDL cholesterol by 20%. 

Controls blood sugar levels 

Type 2 diabetes is a major problem worldwide with a number of patients suffering without any possible solution to the problem. In this case, flaxseed has proven to be an important ingredient that can decrease the blood sugar level through insoluble fiber that slows down the release of sugar into the blood and reduces blood sugar (by providing fiber to the body)   

In this way, flaxseed has proven to be a boon for health freaks and people suffering from heart problems.
