Some of the food combinations that many of us eat without giving it a second thought, can be very harmful to our health. We are all guilty of eating the wrong kind of combinations without realizing their side effects.  Such food combinations are soda and pizza, wine and dessert, white bread and jam and so on.

The most common dangerous food combination is milk with citrus fruits. But today we will specifically focus on milk and watermelon and how this combination can make you sick.

Milk is loaded with nutrients, and watermelons are one of the healthiest fruits but they are diametrically opposed. Watermelon has a citrus flavor while milk has a sweet flavor. As a result, combining them may result in digestive issues and toxic build up. Hence it is best to avoid drinking milk after eating some watermelon.

As per Ayurveda, milk acts as a laxative and watermelons have diuretic properties – resulting in a clash of functions.

Why is it thought that mixing milk and watermelon is a bad idea?

Watermelon is a vitamin-rich fruit with simple sugars that are easily digested by the human body. Although watermelon is not a particularly acidic fruit, it does contain the amino acid citrulline. Citrulline, which is found in watermelon, is thought to improve overall performance.

Milk is a high-fat, high-protein food. If you eat watermelon and drink milk at the same time, the acid in the watermelon may bind the protein in the milk. The milk will then curdle and possibly ferment. This is what can make you feel ill after consuming these food groups together.

Advantages of Eating Watermelon and Milk Separately

Watermelon and milk, as previously stated, are both extremely healthy food products when consumed separately. Watermelon is a good source of vitamins, antioxidants, and the amino acid citrulline. Citrulline is well-known in the sporting world for its ability to help athletes improve their performance. As a result, you can consume diced watermelon to increase your strength and muscle mass. Watermelon juice is an excellent detox drink when consumed in the summer.
