European Parliament Youth Dialogue will be organized by Generation Climate Europe (GCE) on 27 October 2021 in Virtual mode. The second dialogue will look at agriculture and food systems, with a special focus on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector and the challenges of carbon sequestration.
The Effort Sharing Regulation (ESR) has binding greenhouse gas emissions pathways at the Member State level and includes multi-sector emissions that account for 60% of the EU's domestic emissions. The Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) regulation obliges the Member States to ensure that the net carbon sink from land use does not deteriorate compared to how it would have evolved with business-as-usual.
Topics of Discussion:
-
These dialogues will center around three major topics:
-
An introduction to carbon emissions in the agricultural sector and the transition towards agroecology
-
A discussion on how to achieve decarbonisation of agriculture
-
A Look at carbon storage and the agriculture, forestry, and another land-use sector (AFOLU) in the context of the Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) regulation
