The branch or the discipline of biology concerned with the relationships between organisms and their environment is called Ecology.
Ernst Haeckel, a German zoologist, coined the term ecology about 150 years ago, and it should come as no surprise that he did so by combining a couple of Greek terms. Oikos is Greek for "habitation," and -ology is Greek for "study of." So ecology started as a study of where things live. However, the word is increasingly being used interchangeably with the environment.
