The commerce ministry announced on Thursday that the country's non-basmati rice exports increased to Rs 26,058 crore in April-January 2020-21, up from Rs 11,543 crore in the previous fiscal year.
M Angamuthu, Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), said many steps have been taken to ensure protection and hygiene while maintaining rice exports.
The shipping of non-Basmati rice increased dramatically from April to January 2020-21. During April-January 2021, non-basmati rice exports totaled Rs 26,058 crore (USD 3,506 million).

The first shipment of 'red rice' to the United States was flagged off on Thursday, according to the statement.
