Mandi Updates: Wholesale Prices of Maize Slump across Key Mandis

In Andhra Pradesh, the prices fell by 2.8% to Rs 2,043 and in Telangana by around 1.07% to Rs 2,121.

The wholesale prices of maize fell across the benchmark markets of India, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 

In March, the monthly average wholesale prices of maize fell by Rs 67.7 to Rs 2,269.57 per quintal. Among all the regions, Uttarakhand saw the highest fall of around 31% to Rs 1,700 per quintal, followed by Chhattisgarh with a 7.48% drop to Rs 1,892. 

Other states and union territories where the wholesale prices of maize slumped are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, the prices fell by 2.8% to Rs 2,043 and in Telangana by around 1.07% to Rs 2,121. In Maharashtra and Odisha, the prices fell marginally by 0.37% to Rs 2,171 and by 0.42% to Rs 2,111, respectively.

However, the wholesale prices of maize rose in Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. In Delhi, the prices increased by 3.8% to Rs 2,614 per quintal, in Rajasthan by 2% to Rs 2,254, and in Gujarat by 1.5%  to Rs 2,399.

The minimum support price of maize for the 2023-24 season is set at Rs 2,090 per quintal. Maize is majorly grown in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. It is prominently a kharif crop, but can also be grown in the rabi season.
