The wholesale prices of radish fell across the benchmark markets of India, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
As of April 1, 2024, the monthly average wholesale prices of radish fell by Rs 219.85 to Rs 937.73 per quintal. Among all the regions, Maharashtra saw a jaw-dropping fall of 65% to Rs 7 per quintal, followed by Jammu and Kashmir with a fall of around 41.2% to Rs 670 per quintal.
Other states where the wholesale prices of this pungent vegetable slumped are Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Rajasthan, Telangana, and West Bengal. In Punjab, the prices fell by almost 27.1% to Rs 501 and in Haryana by around 10.3% to Rs 711. In Rajasthan and West Bengal, the prices fell by almost 12.9% to Rs 643 and by around 8.1% to Rs 1,905, respectively.
However, the wholesale prices of radish rose in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. In Uttar Pradesh, the prices increased by 19.1% to Rs 1,167 per quintal, and in Uttarakhand by around 25.1% to Rs 793.
Radish is known for its cooling benefits and is grown in spring and the summer season. Haryana, West Bengal, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh are among the largest radish-producing states in India.
