Banana prices fell across the key markets in February according to the data from Agmarknet portal, run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The data shows an average month-on-month fall of around Rs 144.39 per quintal of bananas in wholesale markets. The wholesale average price of bananas in February in the key markets of India is Rs 2,677.72 per quintal, which is a substantial fall from Rs 2,822.11 in January.

Chhattisgarh, one of the major producers of bananas saw a significant month-on-month fall in wholesale prices by Rs 451 per quintal to Rs 2,563. Another major banana producer, Rajasthan saw a fall of Rs 215 per quintal to Rs 2,421.

In Nagaland, the month-on-month wholesale prices of bananas fell by a whopping Rs 943 per quintal to Rs 5,392 in February. Other regions where prices plummeted are Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, Punjab, and Tripura. In Tamil Nadu, however, the wholesale banana prices increased by Rs 780 per quintal to Rs 3,572 in February.

However, the month-on-month fall was offset by a marginal increase in prices of the sweet crop in several regions such as Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal, where the wholesale prices rose in the range of Rs 50-70 per quintal in February. India is the largest producer of bananas and is grown throughout the year.
