The wholesale prices of apples rose across the benchmark markets, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
The month-on-month average wholesale prices of apples, in March, increased by Rs 1,432.27 to Rs 9,616.71 per quintal. Among all the regions, Chandigarh saw the highest increase of around 87.07% to Rs 9,681 per quintal, followed by Jammu and Kashmir with an 85.17% increase to Rs 9,503.
Other states and union territories where the wholesale prices increased are Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttarakhand. In Gujarat, the prices increased by 57.74% to Rs 12,700 and in West Bengal by around 20.31% to Rs 11,597. In Delhi and Uttarakhand, the prices rose marginally by around 1.4% to Rs 4,438 and by 1.14% to Rs 4,972, respectively.
However, the wholesale prices of apples fell in Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab. In Chhattisgarh, the prices slumped by 27.21% to Rs 9,761 per quintal, in Kerala by 2.04% to Rs 14,682, and in Punjab by almost a percent to Rs 7,131.
