Mandi Update: Wholesale Price of Red Chilli Rises, Green Chilli Drops

The month-on-month wholesale prices of green chillies in March fell in Odisha, Goa, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka.

The beginning of March saw an increase in the month-on-month average of wholesale prices of red chillies, and a fall in the wholesale prices of green chillies, according to the data by the Agmarknet portal, run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The wholesale prices of red chillies increased by 33.4% to Rs 14,636 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh as of March 4, 2024, followed by a 28.4% increase in Gujarat. In Kerala, the wholesale prices increased marginally by 0.5% to Rs 21,100 per quintal. This led to an increase of Rs 2,923.6 per quintal in average wholesale prices of the spicy crop.

However, the month-on-month prices of red chillies, in March, dropped in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. In Maharashtra, the prices dropped marginally by 0.43% to Rs 16,240 per quintal, in Uttar Pradesh, they dropped by 4.5% to Rs 23,000 and in Rajasthan, by 8.2% to Rs 16,051.

The month-on-month wholesale prices of green chillies in March fell in Odisha, Goa, Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka. However, the wholesale prices of green chillies rose in several states and union territories such as Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and various others. The month-on-month average wholesale prices declined by Rs 115.45 per quintal to Rs 3,952.64.
