A trade delegation from the Chinese sugar industry held talks with their Indian counterparts at National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) in Delhi on 7 December to find out ways of opening up Chinese market for the Indian sugar.
The convention was attended by few sugar refiners, traders and financiers from China, whereas the Indian side was represented by office bearers of NFCSF and Ravi Gupta of Shree Renuka Sugars.
A NFCSF release stated that "The delegation from China was content with the information provided about dovetailed practices concerning production, processing, storage and transport of sugar in India”.
The delegation will also visit some sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh on 10 December and will travel to Maharashtra on 12 December for a meeting with south Maharashtra sugar millers.
NFCSF President, Dilip Walse Patil said, "We are expecting to get long term access into the Chinese sugar market, while in 2018, we are hoping to export 20 lakh tonne sugar to China."
