National Nutrition Week is celebrated in India every year from September 1 to 7. Its purpose is to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of nutrition and to promote the adoption of healthy eating habits.

The theme chosen for National Nutrition Week 2023 is "Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable for All." This theme underscores the significance of including a variety of nutritious foods from all food groups in one's diet to ensure good health.

The week's organization is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) and the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB). The FNB, functioning as a technical branch of MWCD, provides valuable technical support to the government regarding matters pertaining to nutrition.

National Nutrition Week 2023: Healthy Ways to Celebrate and Adopt

National Nutrition Week provides an excellent opportunity for us to join forces and ensure that every person in India can access nutritious food.

Here are some practical tips to maintain a healthy diet:

  1. Load Up on Fruits and Veggies- Incorporate a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables into your meals. They're packed with essential vitamins and minerals that promote good health.

  2. Opt for Whole Grains- Choose whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat bread, and oats over refined grains. Whole grains are rich in fiber and nutrients, offering lasting energy.

  1. Lean Protein Choices- Include lean protein sources in your diet, such as fish, chicken, and beans. These options provide protein without excess fat.

  2. Mind Your Fats- Be mindful of your fat intake. Reduce saturated and trans fats found in fried and processed foods, as they can harm your heart health.

  3. Choose Low-Fat Dairy- Opt for low-fat or fat-free dairy products like skim milk and yogurt to reduce your saturated fat consumption while still enjoying dairy's benefits.

  4. Watch Sugar Intake- Cut down on sugary drinks and snacks. High sugar intake can lead to health issues. Instead, drink water, herbal teas, or natural fruit-infused water for hydration.
