Government has been taking many initiatives to enhance the horizon of animal husbandry and started Pashu Kisan Credit Card for animal farmers to increase the animal husbandry business across the country. Moreover, it has been decided by RBI to extend the KCC facility for a working capital requirement for activities related to Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

How Pashu Kisan Credit Card Can Help Livestock Farmers?
The amount of up to Rs 1.60 lakh can be availed from any bank without any pledge by the cattleman under the Pashu Kisan Credit Card Scheme. The card will be given a loan by the bank at a simple interest rate of 7 percent per annum and on timely payment, a grant of 3 per cent interest rate (maximum loan limit of Rs 3 lakh) will be given by the Government of India. Thus, loans up to Rs 3 lakh can be availed by the holder of the Kisan Credit Card Scheme (PKCC) at a simple interest rate of 4 per cent per annum and no collateral security up to Rs 1 lakh 60 thousand is required.

Dr. HBS Bhadoria, Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh State Livestock and Poultry Development Corporation has informed that livestock insurance scheme is running in all the districts of the state. Through this insurance scheme, farmers can insure their cattle as well as all animals. In this animal insurance scheme run by the government, the farmer can insure a maximum of five animals simultaneously, the five animals insured together will be treated as one unit. Similarly, 10 animals of meat-producing animals like sheep, goat, pig, etc. The number will be considered an animal unit.
Govt is giving 70% Subsidy on PKCC Loan:
The government is giving subsidy on the insurance installment to the state's cattlemen to insure the animal. As per reports, the government is offering 50 percent subsidy for APL category farmers and 70 percent subsidy for BPL, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe category cattlemen are being given to the farmers on the installment of animal insured by the government. The remaining installment will have to be given to the farmers themselves. The maximum rate of insurance premium will be 3 percent for one year and 7.50 percent for three years.

It is necessary to inform the insurance company within 24 hours on the death of the insured animal On the death of the insured animal, the insurance company is required to give farmers information within 24 hours, after which the doctors of the animal husbandry department will examine the carcass of the animal and in its report will give the reasons for the death in writing. Officers will submit claim form to the insurance company within one month. The company will resolve the claim within 15 days.

The criteria for eligible beneficiaries under KCC for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries will be as under:

Fishery: Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture: Fishers, Fish Farmers (individual & groups/ partners/ sharecroppers/ tenant farmers), Self Help Groups, Joint Liability Groups and women groups. The beneficiaries must own or lease any of the fisheries-related activities such as pond, tank, open water bodies, raceway, hatchery, rearing unit, possess a necessary license for fish farming and fishing-related activities, and any other State-specific fisheries and allied activities.

Marine Fisheries: Beneficiaries listed above, who own or lease registered fishing vessel/boat, possess necessary fishing license/permission for fishing in estuary and sea, fish farming/mariculture activities in estuaries and open sea and any other State-specific fisheries and allied activities.

Poultry and small ruminant: Farmers, poultry farmers either an individual or joint borrower, Joint Liability Groups or Self Help Groups including tenant farmers of sheep/goats/pigs/poultry/birds/rabbit and having owned/rented/leased sheds.
