It will fulfill the demands of high-quality nutrient-rich dairy products to customers in Himachal Pradesh and adjoining states.
Virender Kanwar, Animal Husbandry Minister said that Murrah buffaloes popularly called the “Black Gold” are highly suitable for professional and organized dairy farming for yielding the highest milk production in India.

About Murrah Buffalo:
Murrah Buffalo originates in Haryana state and some districts of Punjab and West UP of India, where it is kept in the districts of Bhiwani, Rohtak, Hisar, Fatehabad, Jind, Jhajhar, Gurgaon, and the capital region of Delhi. It is a popular breed of water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) mainly kept for milk production.
Let me tell you an interesting fact, a Murrah buffalo at the Lakshmi Dairy Farm in Punjab set a record of 26.335 kg of milk in the 2016 National Livestock Competition and Expo.

Physical Characteristics of Murrah Buffalo:

The Murrah buffalo is good in appearance having dark black in color but sometimes appears with white patches on the face or legs.

They have short and tightly curved horns and their eyes are black in color, slightly shrunken in males but active and prominent in females.

The average body height of the mature bulls is around 142 cm at the withers and around 132 cm for the cows.

The average live body weight of the mature Murrah buffalo is around 750 kg for bulls and around 650 kg for cows.
