Anitha R Radhakrishnan, Minister for Fisheries, Fishermen Welfare, and Animal Husbandry inaugurated the livestock and poultry feed technology center at a budget of Rs.150 lakh at the Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI) on Tuesday.

M Appavu, Assembly Speaker, VCRI Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor KN Selvakumar, and Collector V Vishnu were also present.

"Around 1,500-tonne feed for farm animals and poultry will be generated from the center in a year and supplied to farmers," Appavu added.

Feed technology entails the processing of ingredients and the creation of animal feeds, and it is an essential component of animal production systems in order to offer high-quality and nutritious food. The goal is to convert low-quality ingredients into higher-value feed components while also improving compound feed nutrient consumption. As a result, animal feed has a social responsibility to help create more sustainable food production systems.

According to Radhakrishnan, the expansion of Animal Husbandry would help the state's economy thrive. He encouraged VCRI students to come forward to develop new animal husbandry farms in the district. The government will give assistance to anyone who seeks to establish such farms. He stated that initiatives will be done to increase the production of eggs and poultry in the southern districts.

In terms of fisheries, Radhakrishnan stated that the Chief Minister would conduct a meeting with exporters on Wednesday. He also stated that a country chicken poultry farm and hatchery will be established at Abhishekapatti, Tirunelveli district, with a budget of Rs.9.48 crore.
