Department of Livestock Production Management, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana had organized 2 training programs for farmers on “Backyard poultry farming for inculcation of entrepreneurial skills among young farmers of Punjab” & “Experiential learning for youth of Punjab for developing entrepreneurial skills in piggery”.
The trainings were held under the guidance of Course Director and Dean, College of Veterinary Science Dr S.P.S Ghuman. It was co-ordinated by Dr. Daljeet Kaur, Dr. Yashpal Singh and Dr. Subhash Chandra. The trainings were held under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Entrepreneurial development programme for SC Beneficiaries program operational in GADVASU.
These were the offline programs organized by the department under SOP of Coronavirus. Over 10 farmers from nearby villages and localities in each training actively participated in the training sessions.
Hands-on -training was imparted on different aspects of backyard poultry farming with the aim to polish the skills of farmers. Experts gave lectures with practical tips on basic principles of housing & rearing, brooding care, nutritional requirements, health aspects to young farmers. Farmers were told about all aspects of pig farming viz., care of young piglets, adults as well as housing, breeding, health & marketing. The trainings were successfully completed with distribution of poultry & pig supplements, mineral mixture & extension materials like books on “Murgi Palana”, “Soor Palan” and herbal plants to strengthen the farming skills at farmer’s level.
Rishikant Sharma, Manager, of Bank of Baroda, PAU Branch also gave lecture to trainees on short term loan schemes & financial support services for entrepreneurship development on behalf of bank. The trainees appreciated the efforts of the University for the welfare of livestock & farmers.
