The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Khalsa College Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS) is hosting a two-week dairy farming training programme for women. According to Principal, Dr. HK Verma, more than 30 students would receive training in animal care, feeding, breeding, management, reproduction, and disease prevention.
According to Dr. Verma, the programme will emphasize the importance of agriculture and veterinary streams. The trainees will also receive hands-on training in animal restraint, first-aid treatment, and fundamental health markers that can be used to distinguish between healthy and sick animals.
Dr SK Nagpal in his welcome speech mentioned the brief history of KCVAS and how a tie-up between CEDSI and KCVAS is being materialized to provide training on dairy farming skills. The program started on Saturday with a lecture on “Important breeds of dairy animals for commercial dairy farming” by Dr. PK Singh, HOD, Livestock farm complex.
Dr. Verma said gender equality is vital for a sustainable future. The trainees include girls pursuing BSc in Agriculture. Heads of various departments including Dr. PN Dwivedi, Dr. PS Mavi, Dr. PK Singh, Dr VK Belsare, Dr. Naresh Kumar, and faculty members Dr. SS Dhillon, Dr. Manbir Singh, Dr. Pragya Joshi and Dr. Rinmuanpuii Ralte were also present on the occasion. About Khalsa College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences: In 2009, Khalsa College Charitable Society Governing Council thought of starting College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences to develop technically sound human resources in the field of Veterinary Health, Animal Production & management to cater to the increasing demand of veterinarians in the state.
The institution was granted NOC by the Punjab State Government to start a new veterinary and animal science college at Amritsar to start B.V.Sc. & A.H. (Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry) 5-year program. In 2022, Khalsa College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences is the first institute to get 5-year permanent accreditation from ICAR
