  • Crossing Strategy: This variety is the result of crossing the F5 progeny of an interspecific cross (S 19 x JRC 212) with JRO 204, followed by careful progeny selection. 

Adaptation and Cultivation

  • Specific Adaptation: JROV-5 is tailored for the Olitorius jute-growing belt in India, thriving in these regions' climatic conditions.

  • Cultivation Period: The variety is cultivated from March to September, aligning with the optimal growing conditions to maximize yield and quality.

  • Yield Potential: The variety yields an average of 151 quintals per hectare of foliage at 30 days after sowing (DAS).

  • Vitamin C Richness: The fresh leaves of JROV-5 are rich in vitamin C, with a content of 1.05 mg per gram of fresh leaf weight, making it a nutritious addition to the diet.
