As inflation and expenditure are increasing, farmers are trying to earn profit by doing low-cost & mixed farming simultaneously to increase their income. An example of this can be seen in the Phulpur development block in Prayagraj.
Here, Subhash Chandra Patel, a progressive farmer of Narayanpur in Virbhanpur, is trying to increase his income by cultivating groundnut along with potatoes. Subhash Chandra Patel is doing Mixed cropping of groundnut with potato in his five Biswa fields.
Subhash Chandra Patel told that this is his first attempt at farming. If successful in this, he will try to include more areas under cultivation. Regarding this type of farming, Haripratap Patel, a resident of Narayanpur, told that if he succeeds in the cultivation of groundnut, it will be his additional income. He told that sandy loam soil is required for the cultivation of groundnut.
Potato & Groundnut can be Grown Together:
-
The friable land is useful for the cultivation of potatoes & groundnut.
-
Groundnut has been sown along with potato in this friable soil.
-
It will also be ready with the potato harvest.
-
Raw groundnut will be sold at Rs 25 to 30 per kg, which will be an additional income for those people.
-
Although the time of cultivation of groundnut is considered best in the month of August-September, but those people had to cultivate groundnut along with potato cultivation, so they have sown it in the month of October along with potato.
Inspiration for other Farmers:
Farmers say that if the production of groundnut with potato is good, then next year they will cultivate in this way on a large scale. Along with this, other farmers will also be motivated for this. This will make the dream of doubling the income of farmers come true.
