Effects of Introducing Intercropping in Sugarcane

Intercropping is basically the growing of two or more crops at the same time on a piece of land with an explicit row-planting pattern to get higher productivity per unit of space and time.

Intercropping Sugarcane with Soyabean

The results of sugarcane plantation intercropped with soyabean on plant growth, yield, accelerator activity, gas and phosphorus contents, and the microorganism amount of rhizosphere soil were investigated. Results showed that dry weight of biomass and yield below sugarcane/soybean intercropping were increased by 35.44 and 30.57 g/l after sugarcane, respectively, and attenuated by 16.12 and 9.53 g/l (100-grain weight) for soybean, severally. The enzyme activity of intercropping soybean nodules was considerably increased by 57.4 when compared with monoculture models. The enzyme activities of intercropped sugarcane and soybean were promoted by 89 and 81 when compared to the monoculture models, respectively.

Soyabean As Compared to Monoculture

The effective gas and phosphorus contents of the rhizosphere soil of intercropped sugarcane and soybean were increased by 66 and 31.7%, respectively, as compared to those within the monoculture system. The microorganism range of rhizosphere soil within the intercropping pattern increased considerably as compared to those within the monoculture models. The quantities of bacteria, fungi, and true bacteria increased by 44.62, 14.5, and 78.5 you bored with the intercropping sugarcane, whereas the intercropping soybean increased by 188, 183, and 74 nothing, severally.

The sugarcane crop depletes a substantial quantity of nutrients from the soil. However, soybeans in an intercropping pattern will increase productivity per unit of land and permit the crops to more effectively utilize nutrients and improve soil fertility and field ecological conditions. Growing sugarcane crops depletes a substantial quantity of nutrients from the soil. However, soybeans in an intercropping pattern will increase productivity per unit of land and permit the crops to effectively utilise nutrients. Sugarcanes and soybeans together are often thought of as decent agriculture management practice, serving to push plant growth and yield and increase soil nutrients.

Benefits of Intercropping System

The review clearly brings out the positive effects of mixing crops in sugarcane-based cropping systems. Although they measure the overall biological benefits of an intercropping system, most of the studies have indicated a depressing result of intercrops on the bottom crop of sugarcane. Though intercropping has been practised historically for thousands of years and is widespread in several elements of the globe, it's still poorly understood from a scientific discipline perspective and analysis in this space is much less advanced than comparable monoculture.

This is due partially to the wide use of pure crop cultures within the developed world, partially to the relative lack of resources within the developing world, and not least to the quality of the issues concerned. Thus, a lot of analysis is required to raise awareness of how intercrops perform and to develop intercropping systems that are compatible with current farming systems.

For an associated intercrop combination to be biologically advantageous, Agri-techniques like plant food application, seed rate of intercrop and base crop, and choice of appropriate genotypes should be taken care of to cut back on the depressing result of intercrops on sugarcane and to extend the productivity and profit of the intercropping system.
