On the occasion of World Coconut Day, the Coconut Development Board organized a series of events today. This year's theme is "Cultivate coconut for a happy life and future."
The goal of Coconut Day is to raise awareness about the importance of coconuts and to draw national and international attention to this fruit.
Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar today inaugurated Gujarat Centre of Coconut Development Board at Junagadh and announced the winners of the Board's National Awards and Export Excellence Awards during the ceremony. He also spoke to the many coconut farmers.
Besides, a separate program is being held in Kochi (Kerala), where the Junagadh event was broadcast live.
Gujarat's Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cow Breeding Minister, Raghavjibhai Patel, and Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Cow Breeding, Devabhai P. Malam, attended the main function in Junagadh.
The guests of honour included local MP Rajeshbhai Naranbhai Chudasama, Porbandar MP Rameshbhai Dhaduk, and MLAs from the Junagadh district.
In Junagadh, about 1,000 coconut farmers and government officials took part in the program.
Following the programme, the Junagadh Agricultural University will host technical sessions on good coconut farming practices and marketing.

Every year on September 2nd, all coconut-producing countries in the Asia-Pacific region celebrate World Coconut Day, which coincides with the International Coconut Community's Foundation Day (ICC). The ICC is a non-governmental organisation.
