‘Value Addition is Right Way to Attract Maximum Profits,’ says VC, GADVASU

Dr. Ramneek, Dean, CODST told that the college is dedicated to produce trained dairy graduates and postgraduates and the Experimental Dairy Plant (EDP) of the college is committed for supplying fresh and quality milk and milk products to the consumers.

College of Dairy Science and Technology (CODST), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated World Milk Day on 6th June, 2022 under the aegis of ICAR funded Institutional Development Plan (IDP) being operational in the university.

In the context of World milk day, a Food Festival was organized by the college. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU was the chief guest on this occasion. He appreciated the college in celebrating the world milk day with the involvement of the students of the college in the preparation and sale of quality milk products.

He said that the value addition of the milk is the right way to fetch the maximum profits. This initiative will inculcate entrepreneurial qualities in students.

The main attraction of this festival was newly launched dairy-based food products like Goat cheese, Ricotta cheese spread, Natural vanilla ice cream and Muskmelon ice cream besides other milk products like Whey drinks, sweet, and masala Lassi, Hazelnut cold coffee etc.

These products were prepared by the students of the college from the milk produced at GADVASU Dairy Farm. A poster-making competition was also held, about 15 students prepared posters on the themes “sustainable dairy production system” and “fermented dairy products".

These posters were displayed at the food festival event. Along with this a ‘Free milk adulteration testing camp’ was also organized from 24th to 31st May where about 100 milk samples brought by the consumers were tested free of cost and test reports were sent to the concerned persons the same day via WhatsApp. 

Further, to make the world milk day memorable, a special edition of Vigiyanak Pashu Palan magazine of the university was also published containing articles related to various aspects of milk. Students from Guru Nanak National College, Doraha also visited the festival and relished the products prepared and sold by the students. They also visited the Experimental Dairy Plant of the college and witnessed various operations of the plant.

Dr. Ramneek praised the scientists and students of CODST for their dedication and hard work in organizing the various events in such a structured and planned way. Deans, directors, faculty, staff members and students graced the occasion.
