The Uttar Pradesh government announced on Thursday that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's 'Panchamrut Yojana' will aid in doubling farmers' income through the implementation of cost-effective technical measures and the promotion of co-cropping.
It is worth noting that the Yogi Government increased the sugarcane support price by Rs 350 in advance of the last crushing season, including Rs 340 for normal species and Rs 335 for species declared unsuitable.
According to a Sugarcane Development Department official, the government has already begun taking steps under the Panchamrut Yojana to achieve this goal, and would initially select a total of 2028 farmers in the state ahead of the autumn season to develop model plots, so that more and more innovative farmers felt encouraged to join the programme for their own benefit.
"The minimum area of this plot will be 0.5 hectares," the official said, adding that "at least 15 plots each will be selected in Sugarcane Development Councils of Central and Western Uttar Pradesh and 10 in Eastern Uttar Pradesh." Under the 'Panchamrut Yojana,' different goals have been set district-wise in terms of implementing methods for maximum outcome."
Sugarcane Development Department officials are visiting villages in various districts of Uttar Pradesh to educate farmers about the benefits of growing sugarcane after wheat harvest. According to the official, the Panchamrut scheme will also allow farmers to grow oilseeds, pulses, and vegetables alongside sugarcane to supplement their income. Furthermore, the government will ensure that farmers receive the correct price for their produce.
According to a press release issued by the UP government, the Panchamrut scheme aims to reduce sugarcane production costs while increasing productivity and land fertility through five techniques, including an integrated trench method for sugarcane sowing, ratoon management and trash mulching, drip irrigation, and co-cropping.
The scheme aims to reduce costs by saving water and making the best use of stubble and sugarcane leaves, reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides, encouraging farmers to grow more than one crop for greater productivity and income, and controlling pollution by eliminating the need to burn leaves in the fields.
The government will also award 'Uttam Sugarcane Farmer' awards to farmers who implement the Panchamrut scheme and are able to increase the productivity of their land as well as their income. The Uttar Pradesh government encourages farmers to adopt new agricultural techniques in order to reduce agricultural costs and increase their income.
