Surya Pratap Shahi, Uttar Pradesh agriculture minister said that Chandauli district also called the rice bowl of east UP, will soon become a major vegetable and fruits production area with the launch of a centre of excellence for vegetable farming.
On Sunday, Shahi told reporters at the circuit house in Varanasi that the projected center of excellence's foundation would be laid the following day in the Chandauli district.
With an investment of Rs 13.67 crore, the center will be built to provide farmers in the Varanasi and Mirzapur districts with access to advanced techniques for growing fruits and vegetables.
He said that two nurseries had been modernized by implementing the latest methods with an investment of more than Rs two crore. At the horticulture campus next to the district headquarters and the Center for Agriculture Science in Kallipur, Shahi officially inaugurated both of these completed projects.
The minister said the BJP-led governments at the state and center are committed to doubling farmers' income and are taking all necessary steps in that regard. On July 31, the 11th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme was announced, and 2.60 crore farmers, including 2 lakhs in Varanasi, benefited from it. Shahi also provided updates on the status of the e-KYC, solar pump, and other schemes.
The state government is taking all necessary steps to encourage farmers in the state to choose natural farming in order to save soil and water, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was speaking about his initiatives for the agriculture industry, specifically the promotion of natural farming by discouraging the use of chemical fertilizers.
