So far this fiscal, the Union Commerce Ministry's Tea Board has disbursed around Rs. 1.10 crore in subsidies to qualifying growers and producers in South India. The subsidy has already been put in the beneficiaries' bank accounts, according to the Tea Board's South Zonal Office in Coonoor.
Dr. M Balaji, Executive Director of the Board, stated that the Tea Board's South Zonal Office has been offering various subsidies to tea growers in order to improve output, productivity, and quality of manufactured tea.
According to him, one major tea garden has been awarded 5.80 lakh under the Plantation Development Scheme for uprooting and replanting operations in this first tranche of subsidy disbursal.
Under the initiative of Incentive for Orthodox Tea Production, he claimed, a subsidy of roughly Rs.1.04 crore was offered to five tea factories. The Tea Board encourages the development of orthodox teas in order to secure a fair market price and to assist growers in producing high-quality leaves.
“The Tea Board provides educational stipends and the Nehru Award to plantation employees' children. It provides financial support to disabled plantation workers who are undergoing treatment for cancer, heart disease, or kidney disease.
There are still several schemes for which no subsidy has been announced. Small tea growers' Self Help Groups receive financial assistance to update their shared facility center and assure collective participation in increasing the overall quality of manufactured tea, according to Dr. Balaji.
Tea Board’s South Zonal Office in Coonoor said that the subsidy has already been deposited in the beneficiaries bank accounts.
Tea Board’s Executive Director Dr M Balaji said that the South Zonal Office of the Tea Board has been providing various subsidies to the tea growers to enhance the production, productivity and quality of made tea. He said that in this first tranche of the subsidy disbursal, one large tea garden has been given ₹5.80 lakh for uprooting and replanting activity under the Plantation Development Scheme.
He said that around ₹1.04 crore subsidy has been given to five tea factories under the scheme of Incentive for Orthodox Tea Production. Tea Board encourages the production of orthodox teas to ensure remunerative price in the market and help growers come out with quality leaves.
There are more schemes for which subsidy is yet to be announced.
“Tea Board gives educational stipend and Nehru Award to the wards of the plantation workers. It extends financial assistance to disabled persons who are working in plantations for their treatment towards cancer, heart and kidney ailments. Financial support is given to the small tea growers’ Self Help Groups to upgrade their common facility centre and to ensure collective participation towards improving the overall quality of made tea,” Dr Balaji listed.
