What is Chlormequat
Chlormequat, a chemical primarily used for plant growth regulation, has been detected in the urine samples of a significant portion of the population surveyed by the EWG. Out of 96 individuals tested between 2017 and 2023, a staggering 77 showed traces of chlormequat in their urine. What's more alarming is that the levels and frequency of detection have increased notably in samples collected in 2023 compared to previous years, suggesting a potential rise in consumer exposure to this harmful chemical.
Despite its lesser-known status, chlormequat has been associated with adverse effects on fertility and fetal development in animals.
