Chief Minister Amrinder Singh on Monday again restated his full support to farmers and Arthiyas of the state. He criticized the central government for intruding upon the states' rights in its bid to dominate them. He rebuked it over the forcible imposition of the farm laws and the direct benefit transfer.

Two-day Kisan virtual mela has organized by Punjab Agricultural University [PAU]; Ludhiana, the Chief Minister, expressed his unity with the farmers against the farm laws. He stressed that the centre should have taken them into confidence before their validation.

Chief Minister said Punjab, which is not even a part of the agricultural reforms, was included in the committee after he writes to the centre. After that as well, there was nowhere mention of these laws at the committee's meetings.

He pointed out that 144 farmers have died during agitation; he said his government is paying Rs 5 lakh and a job to the next family member of the deceased farmer, to which the centre continued to be polite.

On the rising problem of scarcity of surface and underground water, he recommended the farmers to go for drip irrigation that helps in a big way to save the state from becoming a desert soon. The rapid depleting water table is a significant issue for the state, and the only solution is to get out of the paddy wheat cycle to save this precious resource," he said.
