Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), a leading agri university in India would be honouring 5 progressive farmers, including a woman on September 23, the first day of Kisan Mela.
According to the Vice Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, awards are intended to support progressive and small farmers, who will get plaques, honours, and financial awards.
The "Parvasi Bharti Award 2022" will be given to Sardar Satpal Singh Toor, a farmer from the Sawadi Kalan village in Ludhiana, for creating a role in crop diversification. He raises crops for fodder as well as potatoes, wheat, maize, mint, berseem, and moong. By using a laser land leveller and avoiding burning paddy straw, he conserves natural resources.
Another farmer from Hoshiarpur's Fuglana village, Amritpal Singh Randhawa, will receive recognition for crop diversification. He has established a processing facility where he turns raw turmeric into powder and a cold store (1,800 metric tonnes) for the storage of raw and ripe potatoes after pursuing his M.Sc. in Horticulture at PAU.
He grows pear, peach, and plum trees as well as spring corn and moong on his 54 acres of land.
The "Surjit Singh Dhillon Award 2022" will be given to Satnam Singh, a resident of Bathinda's Burj Tharoar village. On 4.5 acres, he engages in scientific farming and has established himself as a role model in the production of fruits and vegetables and dairy farming.
The "State Awardee Sardarni Jagbir Kaur Memorial Award 2022" will be given to Veerpal Kaur, a resident of the Romana Albail Singh village in Faridkot, for her accomplishments in related Agri-occupations. She cultivates various crops on a 3-acre land in addition to working dairy and poultry farming.
The "Sardar Ujaggar Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Award 2022" will be given to Manjit Singh, a citizen of Mansa's Karanghana village, for achievement in vegetable farming. He has a vegetable nursery on five acres in addition to a nursery production of paddy and Kharif onion.
