With the aim to help farmers affected from natural disasters or sudden change in weather, government had launched the scheme in the year 2016.

The last date to apply for Kharif crops insurance under PMFBY is 31st July 2020. Those indebted cultivators who do not want to avail the insurance facility should inform their branch in written one week before the last date. Non-indebted farmers can do crop insurance themselves through CSC, bank, agent, or insurance website.

It must be noted that farmers have to fill in the application form within ten days of sowing to get the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Insurance benefits would be given only if the crops are damaged in between the stages of sowing & harvesting because of a natural disaster.

Farmers have to pay a uniform premium of only 2% for all Kharif crops & 1.5% for all rabi crops. For annual commercial & horticultural crops, only 5% premium will have to be paid as per the rules.
