Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that over 21.40 lakh farmers have so far registered under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan-Dhan Yojana (PM-KMY), a voluntary pension scheme for small and marginal farmers. The pension yojana was introduced in 2019 to provide old age protection & social security.

The enrollment of eligible farmers under PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana was started by Common Service Centres from August 2019.
Tomar said, when PM-KMY was launched on 12 September 2019, about 13, 29,353 people had joined the scheme.
As PM-KMY is a voluntary & contributory pension yojana, the minister said no specific target for enrolment was set for last year.
